Notes
1. Covers exist with Australian postal cancellations dated 17 May and 31 May in addition to the standard date. The exact numbers are not known but Covers dated 30 May are in the maiority.
2. A number of Covers signed by Flt Lt Murray are Standard Covers with blue printing.
3. Hinkler, a Oueenslander, won world acclaim for his record-breaking flight from England to Australia in February 1923. Known as his country's "Lone Eagle" because of his preference for flying solo, Hinkler was one of the world's greatest exponents of light plane flying. On 7 January 1933 Hinkler, flying a Puss Moth, left England, intending to set a new England- Australia record flying the Great Circle route, never before attempted. He never completed the flight; the wreckage of his plne was found subsequently in Italy.
4. After a distinguished technical career with Hawker Aircraft, Avro and Dowty, Mr Davies retired in 1972. His aviation work was chiefly concerned with development of the Lancaster in the Second World War and the design, direction and development of the Vulcan in the 1960s.
